About Us


North Staffs LinkLine   was set up in July 2007 following the experiences of Fr. Stephen Fawcett, at that time the Parish Priest at St. Werburgh's in Clayton, of a similar befriending service being offered to his Aunt in Bilston in the West Midlands.
The benefits gained from this experience led to the forming of a group of like minded people coming together in order to begin the setting up of what was to become something very special - a new telephone befriending service. The aim to provide for the vulnerable over 55yrs within the Borough of Newcastle-under-Lyme,  a reliable friendly and regular contact, who could also support the families of the clients by alerting when necessary carers and family of any need or issue we have been made aware of.  Perhaps the most important thing we do is listen.

We are able to signpost our clients to other services and facilities that may benefit them such as Flu jabs seasonal reminders; electric blanket checking; Fire Brigade surveys; Scam alerts; Hospital Appointments; Social Services and other Charities and support services.

Using a bespoke software system we can readily spot trends and changes and record them securely. 
Based in Clayton, we are open each week day from 9.30 till 12.30, currently supporting nearly 100 individuals (July 2014), working with a dedicated team of volunteers, all of whom are trained and Police checked before joining us.  Every volunteer is carefully placed with each client so that the same volunteer builds u
p a strong relationship with feeling of security and trust mutually maintained with the aim of providing a sense of well-being for our clients

As well as our weekly calls we also send out newsletters with items of interest for those who may not be able to access the internet.   We celebrate birthdays with cards sent from the team of volunteers and at Christmas time too, when the feeling of isolation and loneliness can be most acutely felt, we are the friend on the phone in the post!!

We have received excellent feedback from many of our clients who remind us often that the service is valued and welcomed as a friendly contact they look forward to receiving with the peace of mind it brings - something that the extended family has also benefited from.
